BOWLUNA/dsh-custom-mode

Edit a DeepSeek Harness custom mode — system prompt, base mode and plugin switches — and keep more than one assistant.

dsh-custom-mode lets you edit a DeepSeek Harness custom mode — its system prompt, base mode, and plugin switches — and keep more than one assistant. You open Settings → Custom mode, edit the system prompt (Save sits directly under the editor), and a new session uses this assistant when settings.yaml has no agent-presets.default yet; an existing value is left as-is. The prompt is stored as prompt.md and is re-read the next time a model step is assembled; history can load an older draft into the editor without writing, a save computed against an older copy is refused when the file changed underneath, and the model can change the file only through custom_prompt, which asks first. All five base modes can be chosen for the open assistant, while the New assistant flow keeps Coding, Writing and Chat selectable, leaves only the official Standard mode lit, and dims the other four official modes.

Install

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-custom-mode@2.2.2

Copied verbatim from the README's 'Install' section, which pins the version because a bare name can install an older build during pnpm's release cooldown (details in docs/TROUBLESHOOTING.md). Restart the process that serves the profile after installing. On the desktop app, install from the in-app Plugins page — the CLI cannot modify profiles/desktop; on Windows, install.sh is bash and needs a dsh executable on PATH.

Compatibility

DeepSeek Harness. Declared range: >=0.1.5-rc.2 <0.2.0-0 || >=0.1.6-alpha.1 <0.2.0-0 || >=0.1.7-alpha.1 <0.2.0-0 || >=0.2.0-0 <0.3.0-0 || >=0.2.1-alpha.1 <0.3.0-0; for 2.2.2 the README records 0.2.0-rc.2 as declared and checked on a Windows web profile, with 0.2.1-alpha.1 and 0.1.7-rc.2 declared/in CI but not re-run for this release. Surfaces: web profile (normal install) and desktop app (via the in-app Plugins page only). It does not run in the desktop profile from the CLI, and headless mode will not start a session that uses an agent preset.

FAQ

Does this replace the built-in modes?
No. The README's Boundaries section says it does not replace Standard, PTC, Minimal or Creator, it does not ship a role-play preset, and it does not run in the desktop profile from the CLI — for a new assistant only the official Standard mode is available as a base.
When does a new session pick up my custom assistant?
A new session uses this assistant when settings.yaml has no agent-presets.default yet; an existing value is left as it is. The stored prompt (prompt.md) is read again the next time a model step is assembled.
Can the model rewrite my system prompt on its own?
Only through the custom_prompt tool, and the README says it asks first. Loading an older draft into the editor does not write, and a save computed against an older copy is refused when the file changed underneath.
