Contribution research for agents: check repository guidance, related work, code context, and validation before
GitContribute is contribution research for agents: before an agent writes a patch it checks repository guidance, related issues and pull requests, code context, accepted contribution patterns and validation results, so it can tell whether an issue is still relevant, already being implemented, appropriate for an outside contributor, or supported by enough evidence to work on safely. It collects all of this into a local SQLite corpus and identifies missing or stale coverage. It exposes the same workflow as a CLI, a terminal UI and an MCP server, with commands such as 'archive sync-context', 'radar' (rank contribution candidates by fit, evidence, scope and coordination risk), 'research brief issue:owner/repo#42', and 'search threads'/'search code'.
Install
npx --yes gitcontribute@latest setupThe guided setup command above requires Node.js 18 or newer; the README says the wizard offers MCP (for a supported coding agent), CLI (terminal and TUI) or Both, shows every planned change before applying it, and that adding a repository during setup does not contact GitHub or start a sync. Other documented forms: 'npm install --global gitcontribute@latest', a project pin ('npm install --save-dev gitcontribute'), and a Go source build (go install github.com/morluto/gitcontribute/cmd/gitcontribute@latest). The npm package gitcontribute 3.0.2 was re-verified live on 2026-10-02 with its repository field back-linking to morluto/gitcontribute (MIT).
Compatibility
CLI, terminal UI and MCP server for coding agents. Node.js >=18 plus git; the gh CLI is optional and can supply authentication via 'gh auth token'. Native npm binaries cover macOS ARM64/x64, Linux ARM64/x64 and Windows x64. The README stresses that the setup wizard shows every planned change before applying it.
