Tavotto/Tavotto

A visual editor for matplotlib figures: open the figures your script already drew, adjust titles, legends, curves and page layout on a canvas, and export against a publication profile — while the underlying script stays untouched.

Tavotto opens the matplotlib figures a script has already drawn and lets you adjust them visually — titles, legends, curves and the overall page layout are edited on the canvas, each change is saved on its own, and the script that drew the figure stays untouched. Before export the figure is checked against a publication profile. Its plugin gives the agent nine MCP tools (health check, open a figure, apply an edit, normalise, run the preflight, export, verify a replay, refresh the project, close the session), and an interactive canvas built from the same frontend the desktop app runs appears inside MCP-App hosts. The README records that a figure handed to the desktop window is not the same as the in-host canvas, and documents a single accepted Codex Desktop canvas run on 2026-08-24.

Install

dsh plugin --profile web add "git+https://github.com/Tavotto/Tavotto.git#plugin-stable&path:/codex-plugin"

Copied verbatim from the README's install block (the git+ spec points at the repo's bundled plugin, sub-path codex-plugin). The same block also shows pipx install "tavotto[worker]" for the local MCP worker, and the README's update command is dsh plugin --profile web update tavotto-dsh.

Compatibility

The plugin teaches the host the shape an editable figure must have (script beside its output, vector PDF, a statically resolvable output name) and exposes a local MCP server with nine tools. In hosts that render MCP Apps an interactive canvas appears inside the task; hosts that do not load local plugins never show the tools. Desktop apps ship for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows x64; Linux is beta from PyPI.
